(We apologize for the tardiness of this last post. It got lost in the shuffle of returning home and has now been found. Thank you for following and praying for the Haiti team during their trip.)
We have reached the end of our week, the days have flown by as new memories resonate in our minds. A week that began with anticipation of the coming days ended with a wave of emotions. The joy that was felt, some sorrow, many accomplishments and hope for what's next; this team saw thousands of children smile. In these short six days collectively we served close to 10,000 children with the expectancy to change lives and in turn our lives were changed as well.
We concluded our trip today with one last party, serving close to 600 boys at the detention center. These are the children that were placed there from the streets, whose number one goal was merely survival. Though the detention center may not be the desired place, it did, however, provide a home. It was at the detention center we were able to show a puppet show, have JoJo come out, and give a salvation message to children of different faiths.
After returning from the party we were able to pass out donated book bags full of coloring books, hats, and toys to the Boys and Girls Home founded by the Jeune's. The children were elated as always and our hearts were warmed by their gratitude.
What an amazing trip of new friendships formed, an increased self-awareness, a greater desire to serve, and a deeper passion for the people of Haiti.
